For those who aspire to study in Japan, you may be interested in
joining the scholarship program offered by the Japanese Government.
Every year, over a 100 Filipino students are financed by the Japanese
Government to study in Japan. The Japanese Government offers scholarship programs to qualified students and scholars from foreign countries. There are six types of scholarship categories: Research Students, Undergraduate Students, Teacher Trainees, Japanese Studies Students, College of Technology Students, and Senshu Gakko (Professional Training) Students. Research student scholarships are for those who would like to take up Master’s degree or Doctorate Degree. Undergraduate students are for college-level students interested in social science, humanities, and natural science courses. Teacher Trainee program is open to elementary and high school teachers as well as employees of CHED. Japanese studies are for those interested in Japanese study program. College of technology scholarship is a non-degree study program for technological courses such as material science and engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic control engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science and information engineering, architecture and civil engineering, or mercantile marine studies. Lastly, the Senshu Gakko scholarship are for those who wants to pursue vocational study program such as civil engineering, architecture, electrical engineering, electronics telecommunications, nutrition, infant education, secretarial studies, hotel management, tourism, fashion and dressmaking, design, photography, etc. Scholarships are given every year. Since 1954, approximately 2,300 students from the Philippines were accepted in this scholarship program. Application forms are available at the Japan Embassy from February until May of every year. Process of application includes submission of completed forms, screening, written and oral examinations, preliminary selection, and final selection in headquarters in Tokyo. Successful applicants leave for Japan in either October or April. Note that application and processing is entirely free, so it won’t hurt in trying. Scholarship includes tuition fees, monthly allowance, lodging, airfare, and transportation.
